Walking is a super simple movement, but it has a lot of benefits that can improve your health in a big way! Here are 3 important benefits of walking.
Benefits of Walking
If you’ve got a Fitbit, chances are that you make it a point to get more movement into your day. You probably know that sitting is bad for you and the more you can move, the better! Even if it’s just a simple walk around the office or a quick stroll outside, walking is an excellent form of exercise.
Of course, walking burns calories and helps you meet your step goal, but there are a few more reason you should make taking a walk a priority in your day. There are plenty benefits of walking, but here are a few of the best.
Walking Helps with Digestion
Even though you may feel like taking a nap after you eat, you should do the opposite! A brief post meal walk can help to speed up digestion and control your blood sugar. Just 15 minutes of walking after meal can help to prevent diabetes and cardiovascular decline. So, lace up your shoes and get outside!
It’s Good For Your Bones
Walking is the most practical exercise that we can do. It’s an excellent way to increase the bone density of your lower body and get your heart pumping. Although it may not seem like it, when you walk you are increasing your bone strength by placing stress on them and causing them to adapt. So, even on those days when you aren’t able to get as much of a workout in as you’d like, make a little time for a walk!
It happens to us all, the afternoon slump. Everyday around 3 PM I start to get sleepy, but I’ve learned that my body just needs a little movement to fight off that afternoon gloom. If I get up and take a walk, instead of giving into my tiredness, I end up getting my energy back. Often, after too much sitting and lack of movement our bodies will start to get tired. By getting up and getting moving, you are improving your circulation and sending energy to your cells. Try it for yourself! When you start to feel like you’re shutting down for the day go for a brisk walk and see how you feel afterwards!
